UX Team Onboarding

Overview

Establish a consistent and thorough on-boarding experience aimed at decreasing transition time and enabling employees for success.

Client:

  • Walgreens

Role:

  • UX/UI Lead

Problems

  • Lack of proper training existed on the UX team

  • When training was conducted it was inconsistent and content was usually conflicting

  • In-person training took lots of time and energy for instructors

Solutions

  • Collate all necessary on-boarding information into a unified location

  • Create an easy to use confluence page for employees to access content

  • Record instructional training videos to inform common practices and ways of working

  • Develop onboarding presentations templates that UX platforms and disciplines can then take and add additional layers of specificity to content

Dedicated Onboarding confluence page

Originally, any on-boarding information was scattered throughout the organization and users had to look at multiples sources of truth. This often led to confusion and conflicting information. To improve this process, we created a dedicated source of truth for UX Onboarding that lived on confluence.

Below is an example of the UX onboarding template developed. This one was specially geared toward our UI Visual designers.

Custom Training Videos

In an effort to reduce the large effort required to train in person and ensure a consistent experience in our training, I created instructional videos. These videos were also housed on confluence under the UX onboarding space.

Conclusion

The combination of a dedicated training space, training videos, and onboarding presentations were a success. It allowed more time to solve software UX design challenges and less time having to devote to team operations.
